Janet, Buck, George and Glenn's kids that I never met- I am so very sorry for your loss. I'm also sorry I lost touch over the years. Glenn was my room mate for all four years at URI. The Ames family took me in during the summer breaks and even Christmas after my parents moved to the west coast. Glenn was a great guy. He befriended me as a freshman because he "... had to get to know the guy down the hall in the goofy Frye boots". I think about him all the time, Googling every now and again to see how his career is going - bad news this time. Glenn taught me everything I know about golf, tennis, Johnny Carson and friendship. He will be missed.

I am terribly sorry to learn of the loss of Dr. Ames. I began taking his courses as a freshman at UT in 1990 and continued to study with him through my Masters in 1998. He was a magnificent lecturer and inspired me to switch majors from Political Science to History. I was also lucky enough to be his TA during my graduate studies. I send my deepest condolences to his family. He was a great man.

Glenn was my dissertation advisor, but he was also a mentor and a friend. He will be missed by thousands of current and former students, not to mention his colleagues at the University of Toledo. I had the opportunity to speak with many family members and friends yesterday at the visitation, and while I am still saddened at this tremendous loss, I was glad to be able to spend time with those who loved Glenn Ames, a terrific human being who was called away far too soon.

This is very distressing and unwelcome news. Glenn was an outstanding scholar who contributed much to his field. He was also a thoroughly nice and decent human being.

To Glen's children and family,
My deepest sympathy and prayers for each of you. Glen was my mother's neighbor on Drummond, and he was always so good to us while mom was still living. He was always so thoughtful and even would snow blow our driveway. We loved watching Miranda and Ethan grow up and of course the dog as well. I ask for God's special blessings on all of you.
My sympathy and prayers,

We were stunned to hear of Glenn's death. He was a marvelous historian and a splendid professional colleague. I (Roger) especially remember his love of good food and the pleasure I enjoyed while talking to him over the fruit and vegetable stands at Churchill's on Central. Fifty five! All who know and admire him feel robbed, and so we know something at least of how the family must feel. Our hearts go out to you all. Roger and Katerina
